What is an ESA?

An ESA is a class of drugs that physicians use to increase blood levels where there's been a concern of blood loss. It's an option or alternative to a blood transfusion. In the past, historically, there have been lesser risks of developing complications and death associated with that as compared to blood transfusions however, because of the FDA recent findings and concerns over the drugs leading to Deep Vein Thrombosis and blood clotting and death, new Black Box Warnings have been declared and put in place making the drug to be extremely dangerous.
